Artist Statement

In my recent work I focus on the interplay between people and our increasingly technologically constructed environment. I explore anxiety about AI, memory glitches, separation from nature, and climate change.  

I employ animals and objects as stand-ins for humans and their plans and locate them in distorted and redacted land and seascapes to explore these themes. Reducing the background of a historic photograph to geometric shapes points to how memories are constructed, hallucinated, and glitch while a racehorse stampedes by. I place a sailboat in peril of being upended by the arrival of an intelligent, powerful, and purportedly trainable apex predator.

I work primarily in oil on small, intimate canvases, a medium with a long, analog history and a scale that reflects the human, personal impact of these changes.
